The 2017 South Indian International Movie Awards (Siima) wrapped up in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, July 1, with the Tamil and Malayalam awards announced.

The two-day event kicked off on Friday, June 30, with the stars of Kannada and Telugu cinema given their kudos at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) in front of an excited crowd made up of industry figures and fans.

This was the first time the capital had hosted the glitzy film night, with Dubai having been the last UAE location to play host back in 2015.

The cream of the Siima crop spent as many as three days in Abu Dhabi visiting some of the emirate’s biggest attractions, including the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Emirates Palace and Ferrari World.

Aside from the awards, the crowd was entertained by stars including Pooja Hegde, Hansika, Shriya Saran and songstress Usha Uthup.

The Telegu and Kannada award winners were selected from 120 nominations across 24 categories, honouring the industry’s best singers, lyricists, actors, debutants and music and film directors. A lifetime achievement award was also presented to SP Balasubrahmanyam for his contributions to the industry.
