Lewis Capaldi will perform in the UAE for the first time when he takes to the stage in Sharjah in January.

The Scottish singer excitedly announced his first UAE concert on his Instagram page, saying: "Buzzing to announce my first ever show in UAE. Can't wait to get over."

Capaldi will play at Sharjah's Al Majaz Amphitheatre on January 17.

It comes off the back of a brilliant year for the Someone You Loved singer, who this week celebrated his biggest hit reigning supreme at the top of the US charts.

Capaldi had campaigned emphatically to get Someone You Loved to the top of America's Hot 100, after six months on the chart, begging basically the entire country on Instagram to give him the top spot.

Known for his hilarious onstage and offstage antics, as soon as the song made it to the top, Capaldi celebrated by having the American flag painted on his face and declaring himself "America's sweetheart".

This week, after a second successive week in the top spot, Capaldi donned a leopard print tracksuit, dubbed himself the "snow leopard", and thanked his fans for a "ridiculous year".

Earlier this year, The National ruminated over a Capaldi cameo in the UAE in 2019.

While we initially thought he might have been heading for the newly-opened Coca Cola Arena, it does seem that we got the timing right.

"Fresh success Lewis Capaldi's debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent hasn't even been released yet, and the Scottish singer has already announced an arena tour, which is taking him between the US and European cities from May 4 until March 2020, so perhaps the Coca-Cola Arena will be a stop," The National's Farah Andrews said.

Tickets for Lewis Capaldi's Sharjah gig start from Dh156, and are available on www.platinumlist.net
