Woman was molested in alleyway, Dubai court hears

DUBAI// A salesman followed a woman down an alleyway and molested her as she was trying to get into her car, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday.

“I left the beauty salon where I work and was heading towards my car,” said Pakistani Z E, 28. “It was nearly 10.30am on July 21 this year, it was the fifth day of Eid Al Fitr, when I passed near a car and saw a number of men inside who looked at me and started laughing.”

The woman carried on walking down the alley, in Al Satwa, when someone grabbed her from behind. At first, she thought it was her sister, she told the court.

“But, when the hands touched my breast, I looked and saw a man then pushed him away and screamed,” Z E said.

The woman ran back to the beauty salon and told her sister what had happened. Both then went to the car park to look for the attacker, and found him sitting in a car.

“I was already in my car so I lowered my window and confronted him,” Z E said. “He admitted touching me but when I got out of the vehicle and said that I will call police, he said he didn’t touch me.”

The victim took a photo of the man, and the car he was in, before reporting the incident to police.

Pakistani defendant M A, 22, was not present in court to enter a plea.

The next hearing will be on October 4.
