AJMAN // The body of an African woman was found floating in waters off Ajman Corniche, police said today.
Beachgoers spotted the body at about 5.30pm on Monday and police were immediately informed.
On the orders of the public prosecutor, the body was taken to a police forensic laboratory to establish whether she drowned.
Major Mustafa Sultan Al Majid, the director of stations at Ajman Civil Defence, urged tourists and other beachgoers to heed warnings about dangerous areas of the Gulf.
He said summer was a notorious time of year for drownings, mostly as people ignore the safety signs.
"We are working with the Ajman Municipality to have more signposts put on the beaches warning people of dangerous swimming areas," he added.
Mr Al Majid said Ajman Civil Defence has established a sea rescue unit that monitors beaches and is equipped with rescue boats and ambulances.
