ABU DHABI // Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, the Minister of Interior, has visited the family of a policeman who was killed by burglars who were trying to rob his mother-in-law's home in Ajman on Friday night.

Saud Khamis, 26, died of his injuries after being stabbed by the burglars.

He was able to describe his killers before dying at Sheikh Khalifa Hospital, which helped police catch the suspects, officials said.

Sheikh Saif condemned the killing, describing it as an inhumane act.

The policeman's father, Rashid, described Sheikh Saif's visit on Saturday evening as "a cure to some of the wounds caused by the accident in our souls".

Saud Khamis received a telephone call from his mother-in-law after midnight saying there was "suspicious movement" in her house.

When he arrived he found a stranger inside and fought with him, chasing him out of the house. Outside, however, more robbers emerged from a car and stabbed him multiple times with swords before fleeing.

Police investigated and arrested two main suspects, MI, 23, and MB, 23, both Emiratis, who have been involved in previous crimes, officials said.

Police were able to catch them by tracking their car, which stopped some distance away because of a breakdown, officials said.
