Italian-style circus with poodles heads to Dubai

DUBAI // The Italian Circus is coming to town, and they’re bringing their toy poodles with them.

Visitors to the Festival Promenade at Dubai Festival City will from tomorrow be able to see performances by acrobats, gymnasts, jugglers, clowns – and small dogs.

The shows have been arranged as part of the Dubai Shopping Festival and will take place every day at 6pm and 9pm, running for 25 consecutive days.

Apart from the usual tightrope walkers and trapeze artists, their line-up of novelty acts includes performers imitating the calls and movements of birds and animals, as well as acts including the small dogs.

"The best part will be the funny shows put on by the clowns, which will add much laughter, mirth and joy to the event and have the audience, especially children, in splits," said a spokesman for Dubai Events and Promotions.

"Apart from the display of fitness, athleticism, physical skill and flexibility, there will also be tricks and optical illusions for the audience to enjoy, as expert performers bring the best of Italian circus tradition and innovation to Dubai."

Sergio Solofrina, an Italian national who lives in Dubai, said the show would be perfect for families.

"When I was growing up in Italy I loved going to the circus and I think people in Dubai will enjoy themselves if they go along to this," he said. "This sounds like the kind of things children will love."

Tickets for the show will start from Dh50 and are available at the circus tent’s main entrance.
