Woman finds screw in shawarma at Sharjah restaurant

The Municipality of Sharjah fines a restaurant Dh5,000 after receiving a complaint from an Emirati who found a nail in a meal his sister purchased.

The Municipality of Sharjah received a complaint from an Emirati who found a screw in a meal his sister purchased at a well-known restaurant.

An inspector visited the site after looking at the contaminated meal and fined the restaurant on the spot. Maryam Ameen, from Sharjah, said she was surprised to find the large screw in a shawarma she had ordered.

“I immediately called my brother who directly filed a complaint at the Municipality of Sharjah through their complaints hotline,” she said.

The inspector registered various breaches and issued a Dh5,000 fine.

Sheikha Dr Rasha Al Qassimi, deputy director general of Public Health and Central Laboratories at Sharjah Municipality, said the municipality handles complaints very seriously and takes immediate measures.
