Health and safety classes for private school staff

School health staff instructed on dealing with paediatric emergencies, managing students with chronic illnesses and following health and safety regulations.

DUBAI // Health workers at private schools have been given extra tutoring on caring for youngsters.

A workshop last month was part of the Dubai Health Authority's (DHA) medical education programme for schools.

A total of 146 schools took part in the workshop, which instructed them on dealing with paediatric emergencies, managing students with chronic illnesses and following health and safety regulations.

"We sent surveys to the schools to ask what they needed to know, and when we received the feedback we found out they wanted to know about chronic illnesses and emergencies," said Amal Al Mehrezi the head of DHA's school health unit.

Ms Al Mehrezi said the workshops would continue.

Doctors from the Ministry of Health, DHA, and the private sector were involved in the event, which also taught about paediatric dental care and the importance of proper health education.

The workshop sent out a message that the authority was making every effort to improve conditions for pupils and private schools, said Dr Ramadan Ibrahim, the director of health regulation at DHA.
