Dubai Cares aid has reached four million children

More than four million children in 20 countries are receiving aid from the Dubai Cares charity, the state news agency, WAM, reports.

More than four million children in 20 countries are receiving aid from the Dubai Cares charity, the state news agency, WAM, reported yesterday. The charity, founded in 2007 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was part of the UN's millennium development goals campaign. Its main aim is to provide children in poverty-stricken countries with improved primary education.

WAM reported that since its inception, Dubai Cares had built or renovated 2,172 schools and trained 22,370 teachers. Additionally, 3,157 parent-teacher associations have been created, 489 libraries built and 1.3 million books distributed in the languages of each country. Reem al Hashimy, Minister of State and chairman of Dubai Cares, said: "Limited accessibility to quality education among children in developing countries is a significant issue affecting their progress. As part of our endeavour to provide complete integrated education solutions, Dubai Cares strives to eliminate the main underlying issues that prevent access to basic primary education, which is every child's birthright and the foundation of sustained economic growth, sound governance and effective institutions."
