Bayern Munich CEO on Thomas Muller: ‘We would be out of our minds’ to sell star

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has declared Thomas Muller priceless amid reports of a €100 million (Dh403.9m) bid from Manchester United.

While confirming that offers have been made for the Germany international, Rummenigge said the €100m mark had not been reached but that it would not make a difference anyway.

“There are some players who just don’t have any price tag,” Rummenigge said. “We would be out of our minds to sell Muller.”

While confirming the arrival of Arturo Vidal from Juventus, pending a medical, Rummenigge did not rule out making further signings this summer.

The Bundesliga champions have already signed Douglas Costa, Sven Ulreich and Joshua Kimmich this summer, while Bastian Schweinsteiger, Pepe Reina and Mitchell Weiser have all left and funds are there to be spent.

With Premier League clubs set to benefit from a lucrative new television deal next year, that could tempt Bayern to invest in players they might normally wait another year for.

“We do have to consider whether we bring our transfer activities for next year forward. It’s certainly not going to be a cheaper transfer window,” next summer, Rummenigge said.

During the meeting with the media, Rummenigge also touched on the future of coach Pep Guardiola.

The Catalan’s contract is up for renewal next summer and no negotiations are currently planned, although both Guardiola and Bayern have insisted there is no rush.

“I can’t currently think of any reason why Pep would leave us,” Rummenigge said. “Maybe we’ll just meet for an espresso and clear everything.

“But if Pep doesn’t want to stay, our world would not fall apart.”

Guardiola has won back-to-back titles in his two years in charge of Bayern, but they have fallen short in the Champions League and that is the title both he and the club desperately want this season.

How I connect with my kids when working or travelling

Little notes: My girls often find a letter from me, with a joke, task or some instructions for the afternoon, and saying what I’m excited for when I get home.
Phone call check-in: My kids know that at 3.30pm I’ll be free for a quick chat.
Highs and lows: Instead of a “how was your day?”, at dinner or at bathtime we share three highlights; one thing that didn’t go so well; and something we’re looking forward to.
I start, you next: In the morning, I often start a little Lego project or drawing, and ask them to work on it while I’m gone, then we’ll finish it together.
Bedtime connection: Wake up and sleep time are important moments. A snuggle, some proud words, listening, a story. I can’t be there every night, but I can start the day with them.
Undivided attention: Putting the phone away when I get home often means sitting in the car to send a last email, but leaving it out of sight between home time and bedtime means you can connect properly.
Demystify, don’t demonise your job: Help them understand what you do, where and why. Show them your workplace if you can, then it’s not so abstract when you’re away - they’ll picture you there. Invite them into your “other” world so they know more about the different roles you have.
