ABU DHABI // Al Ain Football Club have claimed Dh21,000 as temporary compensation from their former coach.
The coach, Romanian Cosmin Olaroiu, who now works for Al Ahli club in Dubai, is facing charges of defaming his former employers.
The club said Mr Olaroiu defamed Al Ain FC on the internet by implying that they took money from him to buy shirts for players.
Yesterday was Mr Olaroiu’s second hearing before the Misdemeanours Court. Al Ain FC presented their accusation memo and requested Mr Olaroiu’s conviction and the temporary compensation.
Cases where offences are involved go through the Criminal or Misdemeanours Courts first. If convicted they are forwarded to the Civil Court where the accusers can claim their desired amounts for compensation.
The Civil Court studies the case and decides on the appropriate compensation amount, where necessary.
The case was adjourned until January 28 for the defence to present its case and to respond to the plaintiff’s memo.
