Experience snow in the desert by heading to the Dubai Ice Rink

Who says you can’t play in the snow in the desert? Thanks to The Dubai Mall, we can now experience wintry weather on demand, with the promise of year-round snowfall.

Guests can now pull on their best winter woolies and head to the ice rink at the mall and be showered with snow flakes three times a week. The venue claims to be first in the city to host an authentic “winter skating experience”.

The Dubai Snowfall sessions will take place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. In addition to artificial snow, a live DJ will provide rink-side beats. Snow isn’t the only new attraction at the mall’s Olympic-sized rink, which has also recently introduced monthly “foam parties”.

Typically hosted outdoors, under the sun and in swimming pools, the events see frivolous types showered with cooling foam.

The UAE has a long history of exporting winter elements to its desert climes. Celebrating its 10th birthday at the close of last year, Ski Dubai remains the world’s largest indoor ski slope. Located in Mall of the Emirates, the 400-metre slopes have become an icon synonymous with the emirate’s sense of vision and possibility.

Plans were announced last year to trump Ski Dubai with a 1.2km indoor ski resort as part of the new Meydan One scheme. Also included in the facility is a record-breaking 711-metre residential tower, shopping centre and a new dancing fountain with a sweep of more than 400 metres.

Experience Dubai Snowfall at Dubai Ice Rink, The Dubai Mall, Tuesday 6:15pm-8pm, Thursday 8:15pm-1pm and Saturday 2:30-4:15pm. Entry Dh100. See www.dubaiicerink.com.
