Mark your calendars. Coldplay are returning to Abu Dhabi after a five-year hiatus. The British quartet will play a gig on New Year’s Eve at du Arena on Yas Island as part of their A Head Full of Dreams tour — the tour that may or may not be the group’s last following the release of an album of the same name. The album was released just under a year ago and features hit singles such as <i>Hymn for the Weekend</i> and <i>Adventure of a Lifetime</i>. This is the third time Coldplay has performed in the UAE, following gigs in 2009 and 2011. The news comes during the Formula One festivities that included after-race concert performances by Pitbull, The Chemical Brothers, Lionel Richie, and Rihanna. Other hit songs Coldplay are known for include<i> A Sky Full of Stars</i>, <i>Paradise</i>, <i>Every Teardrop is a Waterfall</i>, and <i>Yellow</i>. Announcing the gig, organisers Flash said anyone with a ticket to this year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be able to get a 20 per cent discount on Coldplay tickets. • <b>Tickets go on sale November 30.
