Boryeong is currently hosting the 20th annual Mud Festival, inviting revellers from near and far in for a nine-day festival purely for rolling around in sludge.

Millions of people are expected to flock to the festival - in part due to Boryeong's claim that their mud is renown for its ability to refresh the skin and soothe the soul.

The coastal town, located about 190 kilometres southwest of the capital, Seoul, is a popular place to pick up skincare products made from the nearby mudflats.

The festival runs until July 30.
