Two million use Dubai public transport over New Year’s Eve

Members of the public used taxis, buses, the tram and the metro to enjoy the night out

More than two million people took advantage of Dubai's public transport over New Year’s Eve, officials have said.

The Roads and Transport Authority said 2,126,417 people used either the metro, the tram, taxis or buses on the evening of December 31.

The figure represents an increase of 3.6 per cent on the number of users last year, the RTA announced.

In total, 907,411 members of the public used the Dubai metro's Red and Green lines, while 37,150 people used the tram system.

More than 440,000 also used the city’s buses while 689,000 used taxis and 52,000 used various types of marine public transport.
