Chanel and Fendi to stage memorial service for Karl Lagerfeld in Paris

The designed died in February at the age of 85

Four months after his death, the fashion world is set to pay tribute to Karl Lagerfeld with a special memorial service in Paris.

The fashion houses of Chanel, Fendi (LVMH) and Karl Lagerfeld, of which the late designer was creative director, have announced in a joint statement that the celebration will take place on June 20 as a chance to mark his legacy.

The service is set to be attended by people from around the world, including designers, models and Lagerfeld’s family and friends, and will take place at the Grand Palais in Paris at 6.30pm.

Robert Carson, acclaimed theatre, opera and artistic director, will design and direct the event. “How can we celebrate the life of Karl Lagerfeld one of the most complete, dedicated and talented artists of the 20th and 21st centuries?” says Carson in a statement. “How can we celebrate this Renaissance man, who remained ahead of his time by taking inspiration from the past whilst always looking to the future? Through a tapestry of videos of him throughout his life, interwoven with numerous short interviews with many of the people whom he inspired and who worked with him in so many fields. And perhaps above all through the contribution of actors, musicians, and dancers whose work he admired, who were his friends and who will interpret some of the music and literature that he so loved.”

Lagerfeld died on February 19 at the age of 85 following a short period of ill health.
