Who shot sports: Brooklyn Museum offers a look at the decisive moments in sports photography

  • Arabic

From a swimmer who looks enveloped in a bubble to a game of football on a dusty ground in Africa, these are sports images but not as you know them. This exhibition puts sports photographers to the forefront, and about 230 works are on display. From old daguerreotypes to digital images, they capture the triumph and tragedy that draws people to sport.

“To play and to watch sports is to be in the moment. Still photographers are masters of moments,” says curator of the show, photographic historian Gail Buckland. There are 170 photographers featured including Simon Bruty, Andrew D Bernstein, Tim Clayton and Daniel Rodrigues. The images span sports from around the world and through the decades.

Who Shot Sports: A Photographic History, 1843 to the Present runs at the Brooklyn Museum until January 8. For more information visit www.brooklynmuseum.org.
