After The5 called it quits earlier this year, members went their separate ways.
Two left the limelight to an extent, while the rest went straight back to the studio to work on their solo material. Whatever the case may be, former member Adil Echbiy – who is pursuing a solo career – says the boys all share fond memories of being, briefly at least, one of the Arab world's biggest musical acts.
He says he is not in touch with every member of the group, but that is not the result of any falling out between them. "We are all doing our own thing and that's normal," he says. "We will always be bonded by the great experience we had. I am thinking about the future, but that doesn't mean I should forget the amazing experience I had."
With Echbiy releasing his debut single Sem3i, we take look at what the four other former members of The5 are doing.
Ahmed Hassan
The Egyptian was the first one out of the gates after The5 split. Even during his time with the group, the crooner played the odd solo acoustic gig in a few low-key Cairo music spots. Last week, he dropped the lyric video to his latest single Hayaty Ahla (My Life is Better), a continuation of the carefree Egyptian pop stylings of his debut single, Garah Eh (What Happened?).
BmD
Real name Mohamed Bouhezza, the group's resident rapper has also been active of late, with the Algerian fully indulging his love for hip-hop. Last month, he released the track Mouraya, an Arabic cover of Moonlight by American rapper XXXTentacion, who was killed last year. BmD's release came on the back of last year's debut solo single Manich Mertah (I Am Not Content), an effective piece of Arabic pop and RnB. Bouhezza can also be found performing the occasional acoustic gig in Algiers.
Kazem Chamas
Who needs to be recording music when you are in love? The Lebanese singer has been spending the past few months in wedded bliss after his high-profile marriage to Moroccan singer Mariah Nadim. How did he know he was in love? Well, in an interview on Moroccan television, Chamas said he knew Nadim was the one when she wished him a happy birthday last year. "Not even my friends did that. I was in Lebanon and she called me from Morocco just to say that," he said. "I was touched and I began to really think about her in a deeper way." And there you have it folks – it is always the little things that matter the most.
Said Karmouz
The most guarded of all The5's former members. So much so, the Algerian put his Instagram account (which has more than 700,000 followers) on private and only resumed tweeting last month after a five-month break. No music has been released and he has not yet commented on either the band's split or his future plans.
