In pictures: commemorating the Nakba’s 66th anniversary

In a bid to preserve a record of what the Palestinians call the ‘Nakba’, or ‘catastrophe’ - their uprooting in the war over Israel’s creation in 1948 - the United Nations Relief and Works Agency has digitised 525,000 photos in the agency’s archive. As Palestinians mark the Nakba’s 66th anniversary on Thursday, the photos tell the story of the refugee crisis that has transitioned from temporary to seemingly permanent.
