Coronavirus live: 13 European countries announce record daily cases

Spain becomes sixth country to reach one million Covid-19 cases as governments across continent enact tighter restrictions

Spain became the sixth country in the world to detect one million coronavirus patients, as 13 countries in Europe announced record numbers.

Governments around the continent have enacted tighter restrictions amid fears that hospitals could run out of intensive-care beds with winter looming.

Meanwhile, Oman will lift a ban on movement during night hours on Saturday and plans to reopen schools for the new academic year on November 1.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention announced 1,538 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, bringing the country's total number of infections to 119,132.

Globally, coronavirus cases have passed 41 million, with many countries reporting record-high numbers over past weeks.

The world death toll has passed 1.1 million and there have been almost 28 million recoveries.
