ABU DHABI // A worker has died in an accident during the building of Louvre Abu Dhabi – the first reported death at the site.

The developer, the Tourism Development and Investment Company, said the man died in an accident last month.

In a statement released after news of the death of the 28-year-old man from Pakistan was reported in France, the TDIC said an investigation was being conducted. “Since the unfortunate incident took place, the company’s main focus has been the worker’s family, especially during this tough time.”

“This is the first fatal incident on site and comes after more than 27 million hours logged to date with an average of 5,500 workers on site,” the TDIC said

“The company is still working with its contractor and the relevant authorities to investigate how this unfortunate incident took place and to make sure that the necessary measures are taken accordingly.”
