More than 70 per cent of Mafraq-Ghuwaifat Road Project completed

ABU DHABI // More than 70 per cent of the Dh5.3 billion Mafraq-Ghuwaifat Road Project has been completed, Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) has said.

The project includes the construction of 16 new interchanges, the improvement of existing interchanges in Mafraq, Hameem, Abu Al Abyad and Madinat Zayed, as well as extensive improvement work of up to 246 kilometres of roads stretching from Mafraq to the border with Saudi Arabia and the industrial hub in Ruwais.

The project, which is now 72 per cent completed, also encompasses the construction of new lanes in both directions for the roads between Mafraq and Baynounah forest area and between Baraka and Ghuwaifat, lay-by parking for road users, a hard shoulder in both directions for emergencies as well as an underpass for camels in areas close to Silaa and Ghuwaifat.

The first phase of the project will be finished later this year, while the whole project will be completed by mid-2017.
