SHARJAH // More than 100 cars used for racing and reckless driving have been seized by police.

A two-week crackdown by Sharjah traffic police to curb reckless driving has resulted in 107 cars being impounded.

Maj Mohammed Al Naqabi, director of Traffic and Patrol Department at Sharjah Police, said the drivers endangered the lives of others on the road by speeding and carrying out reckless stunts.

“Aside from putting the lives of others in jeopardy, the cars were found to produce loud noise that caused a disturbance in residential areas,” he said.

The campaign is one of many to be conducted throughout the year to reduce reckless driving and improve road safety.

Maj Al Naqabi said people should report illegal activities to police and he called on motorists to abide by traffic rules and speed limits.
