AL AIN // The birthplace of President Sheikh Khalifa will open this month as a museum and exhibition celebrating his leadership, and as a monument to the country’s progress.
Qasr Al Muwaiji will open following conservation efforts by Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA).
The TCA said Qasr Al Muwaiji will include a permanent exhibition programme that explores Al Ain’s influence on UAE culture, tradition and history.
Qasr Al Muwaiji is a historic fort and place of rule in Al Ain and was home to generations of the Al Nahyan family, including Sheikh Khalifa, who was born there in 1948, the TCA said.
A conservation programme started in the 1970s and was expanded in 2009 to include archaeological excavation, preservation measures and restoration.
“Through a curated public programme of interactive activities and performances, visitors will be introduced to the fort and its history, highlighting the ongoing rehabilitation and preservation measures, and celebrating the overall spirit of the significant cultural site that is Qasr Al Muwaiji,” the TCA said.
