DUBAI // A student has been jailed for six months for knocking out the tooth of a teenager and leaving him unconscious after a rugby match.

Emirati MA, 17, was leaving The Sevens stadium with friends when AA, 20, who is also Emirati, bumped into him while running. A fight broke out and MA was kicked in the neck, which propelled him down a flight of stairs, leaving him unconscious.

The incident happened at the end of the second night of the Dubai Rugby Sevens event on November 29 last year.

“The defendant bumped me in a rude way while running,” said the victim.

“I was with my friend, SB, when he bumped me. I asked him why had he done so but he shouted at me, saying ‘leave, leave’. I then pushed him away and continued on my way to exit the stadium.”

It was at this point that MA was kicked in the neck and he fell.

“The next thing I remember is that I woke up to find a missing tooth,” said MA.

Losing a tooth is legally considered a one per cent disability.

At Dubai Criminal Court on Tuesday, AA was sentenced to six months in prison for the assault.
