Radio Mirchi has won this year's Masala Award for the Best Radio Station in the UAE.
The Hindi and English broadcast station, which is owned by The National's parent company, Abu Dhabi Media, scooped the prize at the 5th Masala Awards 2012 on Sunday night.
It comes just months after it hit the UAE airwaves in February.
During the star-studded event held at Dubai's Madinat Jumeirah, Abdul Rahman Awadh Al Harthi, executive director of the Abu Dhabi Radio Network, accepted the gong on behalf of the production team. He spoke of its significance given the station's recent arrival in the region.
"The Masala Awards are regarded as one of the most awaited and respected social events for the South Asian community in the UAE, therefore, to receive this kind of recognition just months after launch is a marvellous achievement for Radio Mirchi," he said.
"The station is a valuable addition to the Abu Dhabi Radio Network stable of brands, complementing our suite of English and Arabic stations," he added.
"The fact that Radio Mirchi was voted by the South Asian community to receive this prestigious award confirms and reinforces the strength of the Abu Dhabi Media and Entertainment Network (India) Limited partnership, a winning mix which we believe will achieve many milestones going forward."

Sole survivors
