DUBAI // Three men sentenced to three years in jail each for stealing more than Dh120,000 from a businessman have been told they must see out their prison terms by Dubai Court of Appeal.

The Cameroonians stole Dh128,556 in cash from a Canadian after he met with them in May last year to discuss a gold-trading partnership.

The victim met the thieves in a hotel in Al Muraqqabat and asked him to help them sell a shipment of gold they were bringing to Dubai. When he refused because the gold was not coming through official channels, they attacked him.

A security guard intervened and kicked the Cameroonians out of the hotel. However, they returned a few days later and attacked the businessman again, this time stealing his laptop, passport, mobile phone and bag containing cash and other documents.

The men, aged 22, 26 and 27, will be deported after serving their jail terms.
