Man locked up and beaten for days over relative’s Dh52,000 debt, Dubai court hears
DUBAI // Three men allegedly kidnapped and assaulted a sales assistant, whose relative, they said, stole Dh52,000 from them, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Monday.
Prosecutors said Indians M M, 27, A K, 35, and A A, 34, abducted 27-year-old Bangladeshi R A from the grocery shop where he was working on November 13 last year. The accused have denied the charges of kidnap and confinement.
“M M owns the grocery shop where I work. He came to me and asked me about my relative,” R A told prosecutors. “I told him I did not know where he was, then he assaulted me and said that my relative stole Dh52,000 from him.”
R A said M M locked him in a room and told him he should repay the money that his relative stole or he would be killed.
“On the fourth day, they forced me into a car and took me to Al Ain, where I managed to call a friend and tell him where I was,” he said.
Police later found the car and rescued R A.
