Man denies trying to film up woman’s skirt in supermarket
DUBAI // A 57-year-old British man has denied trying to film up a woman’s skirt while she was shopping, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
The woman, whose nationality and age were not available in court records, told prosecutors she was with a friend at the Plus Point SuperMarket in Jumeirah Beach Residence when the incident happened on January 5.
“She was standing behind me and suddenly pulled my shirt asking for my help to restrain a man who was behind her. She told me he made a recording from under her skirt,” said the woman’s 29-year-old British friend.
The friend held the defendant and pulled the phone out of his hand. He only gave it back on condition he show him the video clip he took.
“He did but the clip only showed the ceiling of the supermarket, which was confirmation enough for me that he tried to take a recording under her skirt,” added the friend.
When the victim asked to see footage from security cameras at the supermarket she saw the defendant drop a pack of cigarettes on the floor. Then when he bent down to pick them up, he placed his phone between her legs.
“But he stopped when she noticed him and he tried to get out of the supermarket,” added the friend.
The woman called police who arrived and arrested the defendant.
An Emirati policeman said he took down the man’s testimony in which he allegedly confessed to molesting the shopper.
At Dubai Criminal Court this morning, the defendant denied a charge of sexual assault.
The next hearing will be on April 27.
