SHARJAH // More than 25,000 government employees and their families will be covered by a health insurance scheme to be launched by Sharjah Health Authority next month.

Abdulla Al Mahyan, chairman of the authority, said 25,514 UAE nationals, residents and their families would benefit.

"The directives of Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, are straightforward and clear, mandating the provision of a healthy environment to all the emirate's employees and their families as soon as possible," Mr Al Mahyan said.

"The aim of this is to boost employees' sense of belonging within the workplace, stimulate them to exert greater efforts, and ensure that employees and their families have peace of mind."

An Emirati employee's spouse and children, with the exception of married or employed adults, are covered. Retired UAE national employees and their spouses will also be cared for.

"SHA is working to accelerate the implementation of the new insurance system to cover all beneficiaries in Sharjah," said Amal Al Qatari, director of health insurance at the authority.

"We expect a good response to this service."

The new scheme will begin next month.
