Diabetes injection in UAE by next month
The Ministry of Health has announced that the UAE will be the first country in the world to register the Trulicity injection solution for the treatment of type 2 diabetes after it was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency.
Elli Lilli and Company, which manufactures the drug, confirmed that Trulicity would be available in pharmacies and hospitals by the end of next month, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National.
Trulicity is administered by injection once a week. It helps to regulate blood sugar in adult type 2 diabetics. It is a natural hormone that stimulates natural insulin production. It can be used in isolation without combining it with other medicines.
The undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Mohammed Sultan Al Ulama, said: “The ministry is keen to support the drug system and to keep abreast of medicinal innovations, and to bring globally innovated medicines into the local market.”
Speaking at a press conference in Dubai on Wednesday, Dr Amin Al Amiri, assistant undersecretary for public health and licensing at the ministry and deputy chairman of the higher committee for the registration of medicine, said: “We have issued the marketing licence for Trulicity o ease patients’ suffering.”
