Friday sermon: helping others promotes virtue

Volunteering is a humanitarian act done by all people and the best of people give to others. Ways of volunteering are many, so those who cannot afford to give sadaqa (financial alms), can instead help others when they need it, or can promote virtue and prevent vice.

The ways of volunteering are many, so those who cannot afford to give sadaqa (financial alms), can instead help others when they need it, or can promote virtue and prevent vice.
To volunteer is to do any good deed towards Allah, and that will bring us closer to Him in the day of judgment, the sermon reads.
"And it is not your wealth or your children that bring you nearer to Us in position, but it is [by being] one who has believed and done righteousness. For them there will be the double reward for what they did and they will be in the upper chambers [of Paradise], safe [and secure]." [34:37]
Acts of volunteering in a society allow members of the community to be coherent and merciful towards each other.
By volunteering and doing good for people, and by extending a helping hand to them, pushing harm away from them and trying hard to meet their needs to reduce their suffering, either physically or morally, Muslims seek Allah's pleasure.
"We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude." [76:9]
"Allah has created us for a purpose, and by His wisdom He has also commanded us to do good deeds towards others. This is a way of getting closer to Him and this deed might open the doors of goodness in this life and after," the sermon reads.
