A new student housing block with an outdoor amphitheatre, gaming rooms and sports facilities is to be built in Dubai.

Construction is expected to begin on The Myriad Dubai, a 58,000sqm community in Dubai International Academic City, shortly.

The project, which is sponsored by FIM Partners, a Dubai-based emerging and frontier markets investment management specialist, is expected to be the largest purpose-built, professionally managed student housing property in the UAE on a single plot when it is completed in 2020.

The Myriad Dubai will comprise more than 1,820 multi-sized, fully-furnished rooms, each with en-suite bathrooms and WiFi, in addition to access to common kitchens and lounges on each floor. The community also includes a study lounge, gym, swimming pools, squash and basketball courts, an outdoor running track, as well as restaurants and cafes.

Students living in The Myriad Dubai will be able to apply for part-time work and internships in the community, according to the team behind the project. The student work initiative will help develop the work experience of both local and international students, it said.

There will be several types of accommodation including large rooms of 19sqm and standard rooms of 15sqm.

The community will have segregated spaces for women and men and incorporate security systems and procedures to ensure the safety of its residents.

"Dubai has rapidly transformed as a leading higher education destination in the region, attracting thousands of transnational students yearly,” said Mohammad Abdullah, managing director of Dubai Knowledge Park and Dubai International Academic City.

“Our partnership with Strategic Housing Group will help us provide a home away from home for the many students who travel to Dubai for higher education."

Dubai is the single largest market internationally for global branch campuses, according to research by Enbd Reit, which bought Uninest Dubailand, the UAE’s first purpose-built student accommodation block, in a deal worth Dh120 million last year.

Only China, with a total of 38, hosts more branch campuses than the UAE, which has 34.
