ABU DHABI // Two UAE-based organisations are looking at ways to produce books for blind children.

The subject was discussed when a delegation from the UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY) visited the headquarters of the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs, in Abu Dhabi, state news agency Wam reported yesterday.

In a meeting held on the sidelines of the visit, the possibility of cooperation between both groups in developing and producing braille books for blind and visually impaired children was discussed, Wam said.

Marwa Obaid Al Aqroubi, president of the UAEBBY executive board, said: “The visit comes as part of the UAEBBY’s commitment and continuous efforts to cooperate with various UAE institutions and bodies in order to serve the UAE’s general cultural scene and open up new and broader horizons for joint cooperation to show a true picture of the literary renaissance in the country.”

She reaffirmed the UAEBBY’s drive, in accordance with the directives of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, UAEBBY patron and founder, to develop books for children and young people and work with institutions concerned with bringing the two closer together in the UAE.

The possibility of making books available, at nominal prices, in schools, public libraries and museums, was also mentioned.
