As a photo editor it’s always interesting to see two members of your staff latch onto an idea independent of one another at the same time. Such was the case this week when both Antonie Robertson and Pawan Singh had repeating patterns of buildings on their minds. While Antonie’s image focuses on the repetition of the facade of a finished building in Bur Dubai, where only a carpet and a satellite dish break the conformity of the balconies while Pawan Singh’s image of a building under construction in Deira shows us what’s underneath. The patterns push the viewer to look longer at the images, searching out all details that break the repetition and add a human element.
