Al Masaood and Kane achieve third in Mosport Grand Prix

Humaid Al Masaood's impressive start to life in the American Le Mans series continued on Sunday night as he achieved his second successive podium finish.

The Emirati driver and his teammate Steve Kane finished third in the Grand Prix of Mosport in Ontario. The pair had qualified in the same position in their Mazda Lola Coupe, that they are driving with the Oryx Racing team, which is owned by Al Masaood.

After a promising start, in which Al Masaood had pressurised the second placed car of Chris Dyson for a long period, he and Kane fell away in the second half of the race and finished two laps adrift of the winners Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf, who were driving a Lola Aston Martin in the endurance event, which lasted more than two hours 45 minutes.

Al Masaood and Kane are joint fourth in the championship standings, 53 points of the leaders, Dyson and his teammate Guy Smith.

The next round of the championship is in Mid-Ohio on August 6.

Elsewhere in motorsport, Casey Stoner said he was pleased to have re-found his form after winning the United States MotoGP at Laguna Seca on Sunday for his fifth victory of the season.

The Ducati driver had not triumphed in the previous three races, but he came out on top after passing championship rival Jorge Lorenzo on lap 26.

The Australian, who leads the title standings by 20 points, said: "I think people have forgotten about us a little bit over the last few weeks. We've definitely struggled, but for some reasons that we know.

"It's really good to come back with a race like this and show everybody that we can still win. We felt good, really good, at the end."
