Arsenal’s breakout Nigeria star; Leicester City’s strong pair – EPL team of the week

English football columnist Richard Jolly names his Best XI in the Premier League weekend, including Arsenal standout Alex Iwobi and Leicester City duo Wes Morgan and Riyad Mahrez.

Goalkeeper: Rob Elliot (Newcastle United)

An extraordinary save from Sunderland’s Patrick van Aanholt made Newcastle’s comeback in the Tyne-Wear derby possible.

Right-back: Phil Bardsley (Stoke City)

Provided the perfect cross for Jonathan Walters to open the scoring at Watford as Stoke stepped up their bid for a European spot.

Centre-back: Federico Fernandez (Swansea City)

His headed winner against Aston Villa took Swansea to the brink of safety. He restricted Villa to few chances, too.

Centre-back: Wes Morgan (Leicester City)

Another game, another clean sheet for the resilient league leaders. Morgan was in imperious form against Crystal Palace.

Left-back: Martin Olsson (Norwich City)

Norwich have started to show their steel. Olsson helped keep a second successive clean sheet as West Brom were beaten.

Right midfield: Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City)

Another vital winner took Leicester closer to the title and made it more likely Mahrez will be named Footballer of the Year.

Centre midfield: Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea)

Showed his set-piece expertise with a wonderful free kick and a clinical penalty to give Chelsea two equalisers against West Ham.

Centre midfield: Michael Carrick (Manchester United)

A composed figure who provided the finest passing in the Manchester derby. Carrick kept United’s season alive.

Left midfield: Alex Iwobi (Arsenal)

Marked his maiden Premier League start with his first Arsenal goal as the Nigerian teenager excelled in the 2-0 triumph at Everton.

Striker: Sadio Mane (Southampton)

Inspired the comeback of the weekend as the substitute scored twice – as well as missing a penalty – in the 3-2 win over Liverpool.

Striker: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)

Moved into the lead in the race for the Golden Boot with a first-half brace as Bournemouth were beaten at White Hart Lane.
