Photography festival to start in Sharjah

A series of seminars from some of the world’s leading photographers such as Timothy Allen, who has won Travel Photographer of the Year seven times and was a photographer for BBC’s Human Planet series, are taking place in Sharjah today and all weekend as part of the inaugural Xposure International Photography Festival.

One of the highlights will be the presentation on Saturday of Ian Ruhter who creates large-scale collodion wet plates using a 19th century process and who will be doing a live stage demonstration.

Gabriela Maj, author of The Almond Garden, a book of portraits and stories from inside Afghanistan’s women’s prisons and was named as one of the best photography books of 2015 by TIME magazine will also be talking about her project. Maj will also be co-presenting an interactive session on street photography.
