Seven out of 10 bank customers in the UAE trust their lenders compared to their counterparts in other international markets, according to a survey conducted by the UAE Banks Federation.
The study, commissioned with the PR agency Brunswick Insight and pollster Ipsos Observer, will be the basis of a trust index based on future surveys, the federation said on Monday.
The poll, conducted in August, surveyed 1,040 residents in the UAE with bank accounts in the country.
“Customers are five times more likely to say their view of banks has improved (41 per cent) than worsened (8 per cent),” the federation said. “They are also more likely to say that banks in their home country are worse (38 per cent) rather than better (23 per cent) than banks in the UAE. Arab expats (56 per cent) are especially likely to say banks in their home country are worse.”
The survey also showed that 74 per cent of banking customers had confidence in their banks to behave responsibly.
Respondents also said that good customer service, loans and safety and security were significantly ahead of excessive interest rates, high profits and poor customer service.
Most of the respondents said that banks were on top of a range of issues. Seventy-eight per cent said banks are keeping up with digital innovations, 71 per cent said banks were responsive to new regulations and 71 per cent said they were preventing cyber-crime.

A cheaper choice
Vanuatu: $130,000
