An Emirati writer made the the long-list for the Young Author prize at Sheik Zayed Book Awards.
Mariam al Sa’adi joins eight other authors under the age of 40 with her entry The Seagulls of Che Guevara
Al Sa’adi made the cut from from nearly 300 entries submitted to the award. The long list reflects the region’s diversity with writers hailing Kuwait, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria and Syria.
The competition is open to all genres with works including novels, short stories and historic biographies.
The judging panel is set to release a shortlist soon with the winner announced in March.
The Sheik Zayed Book Awards has nine categories with a total of seven million dirhams in prize money.
Each prize consists of a check for Dh750,000, a certificate of merit in addition to a gold medal bearing the competition logo.
