Tom Jones’s wife of 59-years, Melinda Rose Woodward, has died following a “short but fierce battle” with cancer.

Jones was set to perform at Abu Dhabi’s Du Arena on Friday (April 15), but cancelled a string of concerts suddenly last week, citing a “serious illness in his immediate family”.

That family member has now been confirmed as his wife Lady Woodward. It is believed that, like the singer, she was 75.

According to a statement released on Jones’s website, Woodward, who was known to friends as Linda, died on Sunday morning at Los Angeles’ Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, following a “short but fierce” battle with cancer.

The pair had known each other since childhood growing up in together in Pontypridd, Wales, and began a romance at the age of 15, marrying a year later. However, when Jones’s career took off in the mid-1960s, she shied away from the cameras.

The couple have one son, Mark, 59, who also acts as Jones’s manager. The family have “asked for privacy at this difficult time”, added the statement.
