The Script to take on Dubai

The Script will headline the Dubai Jazz Festival in February. The Irish pop-rockers will take the stage on the event’s last day, February 22. Headlining on the other nights are the heavy rock legends Deep Purple and the American groups OneRepublic and Three Doors Down. Now that we have the headlining pop acts out of the way, stay tuned for announcements of actual jazz artists taking part in the festival, which will be held from February 14 to 22 at Festival Park, Dubai Festival City. Scorsese to make Bill Clinton doc

Martin Scorsese said on Monday that he is making a documentary about Bill Clinton. The director will have Clinton’s cooperation on the project, in collaboration with HBO. “He’s a towering figure who remains a major voice in world issues,” said Scorsese. “Through intimate conversations, I hope to provide greater insight into this transcendent figure.” Clinton said in a statement: “I look forward to sharing my perspective on my years as president, and my work in the years since, with HBO’s audience.” Scorsese is also reportedly working on a biopic of Frank Sinatra. – AFP

Channing Tatum, wife expecting baby

Channing Tatum and his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum are expecting their first child next year, their representatives confirmed. The couple, who recently co-starred in the film 10 Years, met on the 2006 dance film Step Up and were married in 2009. The new year will be a busy one for the parents-to-be: Tatum has four movies in the works while Dewan-Tatum appears in the current season of American Horror Story: Asylum. – AP

Cruise in Pittsburgh, US, for premiere

Tom Cruise is heading to Pittsburgh today for a scaled-down premiere of his new action movie Jack Reacher after it was postponed on Saturday because of the fatal school shooting in Connecticut. The screening in Pittsburgh, where the film was shot, is strictly for fans. There won’t be a red carpet but Cruise will be on-hand to introduce the film. Jack Reacher will be released in UAE cinemas tomorrow. – AP

Deschanel’s divorce comes through

A judge has finalised Zooey Deschanel’s divorce from the Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard. The couple were married in September 2009 and had no children together. The judgement does not provide the financial details of the break-up, although it states that the marriage cannot be repaired by counselling or mediation. Deschanel was nominated last week for a Golden Globe for her work on the television series New Girl. – AP
