The 40th anniversary of Women in Film (WIF), a Los Angeles-based non-profit organisation, will be celebrated at Université Paris Sorbonne Abu Dhabi this weekend.
The two-day event will be hosted by Women in Film and Television (WIFT), WIF's only chapter in the Middle East, and will feature lectures, workshops, screenings, live performances and acting classes. WIFT will also honour the Emirati women directors Nujoom Al Ghanem (Outstanding Filmmaker) and Amal Al Agroobi (Best New Filmmaker).
The event includes the regional premiere of the documentary Beauty and the Breast, which looks at breast cancer through the eyes of several patients. The scriptwriter and director Liliana Komorowska, who won the Best Original Screenplay of a Feature Film at the recent London International Film Festival, will be present to discuss the film.
Founded in 1973, WIF provides scholarships, funds and grants, job opportunities and mentoring.
