The web is a-twitter this morning with the
that Abu Dhabi's Flash Entertainment has bought a 10 per cent stake in Ultimate Fighting Championship. Flash, founded two years ago by the Executive Affairs Authority, has been on a kind of tear lately, bringing Beyonce, The Killers, Creamfields and Rihanna to Abu Dhabi in the space of two months.
I did with John Lickrish, the company's managing director, last month, he said the company was planning to double in size by March. He also mentioned the company was in talks to do more family-friendly, sport-focused events this year, like bringing Wakestock, the European wakeboard music festival, to Abu Dhabi. The AP story suggests that a UFC fight might be on its way as early as the spring. That's certainly in line with plans to branch out from music into sport -- but are mixed martial arts family friendly?
