The ever-growing Marvel Universe is about to get a new star – a Filipino heroine called Wave.
The news was first announced at the SXSW Conference – a film, music and culture gathering in Austin, Texas – at the weekend, and comic book writer Greg Pak has now shared the first image of the character.
As announced at @sxsw, I'm thrilled to share the great @leinilyu's stunning design of WAVE, Marvel's new Filipino superhero! Gorgeous colors by @sunnygho! She'll appear for the first time in WAR OF THE REALMS: NEW AGENTS OF ATLAS #1 in May, with art by Gang-Hyuk Lim! pic.twitter.com/cZhwXbQ1FG

While few details about Wave and her powers have been released, what we do know is that she is a "mysterious Filipino superhero" who comes from the sea. She will make her debut in War of the Realms: New Agent of Atlas #1, which will be released in May.
Filipino comic book artist Leinil Francis Yu came up with the design for Wave, working alongside imagery colourist Sunny Gho. The first image shows Wave dressed in a turquoise and black costume, topped off with gold accessories, including two swords.
The Filipino heroine will be joined by two new heroes from China, Sword Master and Aero, and together they will battle it out to save the world.
Wave is the first new Filipino superhero released by Marvel in more than 10 years, following on from the ill-fated Triumph Division – a group of superheroes based in Manila tasked with protecting South East Asia.
