Etihad Modern Art Gallery is paying tribute to the late Iraqi artist Ismail Fattah Al Turk with an exhibition dedicated to his art.

Fattah was one of a generation of artists who studied his art in Europe at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome in the 1960s and returned to Baghdad to become one of the leading members of modern artists that has played host to the new generation.

The exhibition in Abu Dhabi opens tonight under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor of the UAE University.

Khaled Seddiq Al Mutawaa, the founder the gallery says the exhibition is in line with the gallery’s aim to “give the society an outlook on what’s not been seen before”. He goes on to say that Ismail Fattah Al Turk had already set his mark on Abu Dhabi before his death from cancer in 2004 by outlining the design for the palm decorations on the columns of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. “He was an artist who expresses deep aspects of Arabic soul through his art. We are delighted and proud to show his work in Etihad Modern Art Gallery,” he concludes.
